Kichicot was Christine’s cat. The cat was adopted from her good friend Yolande whom she stayed with before she had her own place to live – the flat in Fayence. Christine always said that the cat, or kitten at the time, adopted her. The rest of her family found this very surprising because Christine appeared to never like cats, even though all cats always liked her. However much she tried to have none of it, they always wanted to rub against her legs or sit in her lap. Kichicot got her name from Yolande and is a phonetic variant of the Polish “kotek kot” for “kitten cat”. Conversely, the actual translation of the Polish “Kichicot” into English is Quixote, a very suitable name for this cat with its quixotic nature.

April 16, 1974A bit of work on cat picture.
April 17, 1974Not too unsuccessful start at painting Kichicot. She posed voluntarily on the high chair for 10 mins. Then uncooperative.
April 18, 19743hrs AM on Pussycat & face. 2hrs PM Beginning to see it’s possible
April 19, 1974Started working early because of Kichicot & didn’t clear up. 3½hrs. Was shaking with excitement by midi – I’ve really done it! Can’t believe it!
April 20, 1974FINISHED KICHICOT! 15hrs.
