Final meeting to organize the craft fair on July 16 and 17

We remember that the Chamber of Trades had organized the 1975 craft days.

The festival committee and the municipality organized the second edition in 1976, and they are preparing to put on the third.

The dates have been fixed, the craft fair is taking place on the Place de l’Eglise on 16 and 17 July.

The dynamic president of the festival committee, Jean Martino, and his team wrote to 300 artisans of the province, but only about twenty responded. The forty artisans of the canton and forty artisans from Fayence, bringing the number of exhibitors to sixty. and promises some very fine exhibitions.

But, in addition to these, there will be the sales and the workshops, since most of the exhibitors will work on their stands in front of the public.

It should be noted in passing that a sculptor has offered to remodel the coat of arms of Fayence in front of the visitors, a coat of arms which will be offered to the municipality at the end of the fair.

Tuesday evening, therefore, the members of the festival committee and the craftsmen met at the town hall under the chairmanship of Mr. Fabre, mayor and general councillor.

A real debate arose around guarding. Indeed, Association des artisans du canton asked to have security at night.

Mr. Fabre, speaking not as mayor, but as treasurer of the festival committee, said that this organization was made for craftsmen and free of charge. On the other hand, the festival committee was going to pay a certain amount of money for this accomplishment.

All the members of the festival committee agreed to conclude by noting that the committee was not rich enough to hire a caretaker, and that given the effort already made, the caretaker was left at the expense of the craftsmen who, in addition to the exhibition, were going to sell their products. In addition, it is important to underline that the municipality puts at the disposal of the exhibitors two contiguous rooms on the Place de l’Eglise so that those which wish it can return their equipment at night in these locked premises. The rest of the time was spent studying the locations and availability of electricity which some craftsmen, such as potters, needed to work.
