We always referred to this painting as the “Old Lady” but from her portfolio I see that it was in fact called “Victoria“, I assume the name of the subject. This was a milestone painting in that it was the first painting that she had painted to be accepted in a major juried exhibition, the Royal Academy Summer Salon in 1961.

I was too young at the time this was painted to know anything about its creation but knew that my mother was very pleased with it and felt that at the time it was painted that it was her best work yet. When she moved into her flat/apartment in Fayence, the painting was hung so that it was the first painting any visitors would encounter. I think it sold when she closed her gallery 1993.
