Cups and medals close the festival

Congratulations to the Syndicat d’initiative de Fayence-Tourrettes for this very successful event

Sunday evening, village hall, closing of the Science Fiction Festival with the presentation of cups, medals and diplomas of honor in a hall overheated by a large and enthusiastic public who made a point of warmly thanking with their applause, not only the different “distinguished” members of this festival but also the project manager and client, Mr. Paul Durand, president of the Syndicat d’initiative of Fayence-Tourrettes who, with the effective participation of his office and of all the volunteers who surrounded him, definitively gave his “letters of nobility” to this fabulous science fiction festival which, now it is certain, to meet again next year.

The following were particularly distinguished and honored at this awards ceremony: Mrs. Catherine Bath for “The Impalpable Truth”, as well as Mrs. Marijo Chiché and Mrs. Mike Papoz, ; for the sculpture, Mr. Luccerini, for his “Devil”; Joël Picard, for “Genesis II”, and the very young Tourrettan, Eric Devos, since he is only 15, for his work “The being who is, who was and who will be”. In painting, they were Mrs. Tina Benson, Rolande Mercier, Nebeska de Rohozinska and a very young girl, Miss Jos Bentameur. Bravo, on the stage of the village hall, all these artists, writers, sculptors and painters were warmly applauded.

And now see you next year, Festival 86 is dead, long live Festival 87.

It is with very warm applause that ended this Second Science-Fiction Festival which took place this weekend throughout the town. Indeed, all the rooms available were used to allow a greater variety of genres and the multiplicity of centers of interest.

Around 5 p.m., President Claude Durand called to the stage of the village hall the winners of the various competitions organized as part of the event. We reported yesterday in our departmental pages of the list of these crowned artists, but well, others also received diplomas for their participation either with paintings or with short stories.

Many creators from all over France had tried their luck, but of course also local artists. This is how in painting we were able to applaud Mrs. Mercier (who also received the Cup of “Nice-Matin” for its second prize), Michèle Agostini, Jean Supplisson, Joss Bentameur, etc. In sculpture, of course Joël Picard and the young Jean-Eric Devos who is repeating his success of last year and at barely 17 years old is on the way to becoming one of the artistic figures of the canton. Finally, in the news category, let’s mention Mrs. Chiché who obtained the second prize.

As we know, many films have been screened, all collecting a enormous success, notably Poltergeist II and The Shining”. For the literary part, visitors to this festival were spoiled for choice. Almost everywhere, you could find them, leaf through them, choose them, and even talk to the authors who were present.

In this same chapter, note the retrospective devoted to Ron Hubbard, an American author whose latest success “Earth, Battlefield”, will be the subject of a film next year. Died at the beginning of the year, he is also the author of a decalogy, devoted to the history of science fiction. Five volumes have already been released in the United States, and from 1987, four of them will be translated into French.

It was with very warm applause that ended……
They will be the subject of a presentation at the next festival of Fayence. We are also counting on the presence of “Terl”, a robot. “Psychlo”, hero of “Earth, Battlefield”, a monster ten meters high reconstituted according to one of the heroes of this book. Ron Hubbard wrote many science fiction books, especially during the period 1938-1950. When he wrote his last novel, he was celebrating fifty years of his career devoted to this literary genre. But he also composed music on the theme of his book, which will probably serve as an accompaniment to the film which will be based on it, and which is already awaited with as much impatience as “2001 A Space Odyssey” and “Dune” at their respective eras.
