After some considerable research, I think this is a sketch of Pablo Picasso from the mid 1940’s done while my mother was working for the London Evening Standard. There seem to be few photographs of him immediately after the war before he became better know during the fifties where he looks noticeably older. Although he should need no introduction, I’ll link Picasso’s Wikipedia article for those that want to know more.
This sketch is a little different than many she did at this time with the use of a white conte crayon to frame the face, increase the contrast and add highlights to the sketch.
