Nora Azzapardi and her husband Eric, were friends from the UK visiting my mother’s very good friends, Jane and Ray Lench. So of course my mother agreed to do a commissioned portrait of Nora on very short notice while they were visiting. Commissions of this sort really paid the bills as they say. Although, I’m sure my mother was none too pleased to be painting in the height of the summer, at least she was getting an early start but doing the background and other painting in the heat of the afternoon seems to have been a real physical struggle.
