Labeled Fayence – Var, my mother turned this popular watercolour painting of her village into both a card and a professionally printed postcard. For the postcard she worked with a company in England and this was one of several she had printed. For the cards shown below she worked with some local printers in Grasse to reproduce a simple line drawing on card stock, She then painstakingly painted in the color by hand so that everyone was a bit different. For this image you can see I found a test image where she has rendered the scene as a night time view. I also found one that she hadn’t finished so you can get an idea of the variation. For a less expensive card, she also sold them as simple line drawings on different colored card stock.

While not art with a capitol A, it did help her keep wine on the table as they were much more afforable than her other larger watercolours.
