“Colour!” While traditional sumi painting is generally monochromatic, they do make the solid sumi ink blocks in a variety of colors, when ground and diluted with water the effects can be very subtle compared to appearance of regular watercolors.
Another practice painting to see the effects of color washes and point color on top of the solid black outlines. Unfortunately, the paper on this painting has begun to show it’s age and the many thousands of miles it has travelled but I think it is still wonderful.
