I believe this is a sketch of Boris Karloff, done by my mother when she was working for the Evening Standard in London, immediately after the war in 1946. At that time Boris Karloff was performing in an Arsenic and Old Lace production on the radio. Although an American play and produced in the USA, Karloff was an English actor so of particular interest to an English audience
I think this sketch has a slight caricature quality to it in order to more fully show the evil nature of the character he portrays and to do it when it would typically reproduced as small column width image.
