Children of Thailand II – girl, was the second of a pair of paintings my mother did as a commercial venture. I think it was a more innocent time back in the fifties and sixties and our “modern” sensitivities about showing young girls half dressed need to be ignored as they were not applicable in that era.

The bird is another Budgerigar or Parakeet. This particular subject is a portrait of our very own pet Budgie called “Saki” after the pale yellow Japanese rice wine. Below is a sketch of the bird with details about its coloration that I don’t recall even though I liked to study animals at the time.

I’m not exactly sure what became of this painting but I believe it was sold, along with it’s mate, the boy, to the big department store in downtown Bournemouth.

Working Sketches

Below is single full size sketch that I came across and a detail view of the budgie torn from a notebook. Note how she has recorded some of the time put into the painting, I think this was before she got more organized and started to use diaries.
